The turnover of the five largest Hungarian brewers in the second quarter of this year decreased by ten percent to 1.8 million hectoliters compared to the same period in 2019 due to the shutdown and slower-than-expected recovery of the hospitality and event sector – Kántor Sándor, head of the Hungarian Brewers’ Association told MTI.

He added that the decline was particularly strong for draft beers, where sales were only 35 percent of the second quarter of last year, barely 62,000 hectoliters.

He emphasized that the decline affected all product segments, so based on the data of the first half of the year, it can be seen that the Hungarian beer industry will sell less beer this year than in previous years, despite the fact that the May weather was significantly better than last year and higher retail sales. demand could somewhat offset the loss of hospitality.
