Well-known rural accommodations are closing one after the other
More and more restaurants and catering establishments are forced to close temporarily or permanently, as they can no longer cope with the increased operating costs: everything is becoming more expensive, customers are running out.
For those who can still stay on their feet, from January of next year catering businesses and tourist attractions will be required to provide data to the National Tourist Information Center. The cost of acquiring the necessary software and hardware can range from a few hundred thousand forints to two to three million forints.
Although tourism and hospitality have proven to be a particularly resilient sector during crises, they cannot survive everything. The closures due to covid have also really battered the actors, they were just getting back on their feet, then several hotels and restaurants were forced to close due to the increase in the price of energy and raw materials. On the other hand, the places that have survived so far are forced to carry out major improvements by January 1: according to our current knowledge, the mandatory data provision will start.
Restaurants have already received a reprieve once, instead of July 1, 2022, it is only mandatory for restaurants and tourist attractions to provide data to the National Tourist Tax Service Center from January 1, 2023. The postponement was then justified by the fact that the contractors could still use this half year for technical preparation and staff training. Of course, at the time of the announcement, at the end of May, it was not yet clear what awaited us in the fall, and we would not have thought in our wildest nightmares that restaurants and hotels with decades of history would be forced to close at the end of summer and the beginning of fall.
