Restaurants in the western part of the country (also) close one after another
Many restaurants in Western Hungary have still not been able to reopen, and the series of closures is still taking its toll. The waves started last April in Győr-Moson-Sopron county, and some places are still looking for a new tenant.
One such popular place, the Sopron beer hall in the Castle District, which had a garden area and a street terrace, was popular with locals and tourists for a long time. Stars, politicians and artists also frequented it, and the walls were decorated with photos of them. It was the last place in the city where, not so long ago, a living pianist accompanied the lunch. At the end of last summer, the Várkert Café & Restaurant in Sopron and then the Graben Étterem closed, along with six other popular places in Sopron, including Hotel Lővér, which has since reopened, Telex reported.
The closed restaurants in Sopron’s city center also show how much tourism has declined, as many of these places are still waiting for new tenants. Fogas near the Fire Tower, Rókalyuk Söröző in the castle district, and many other places have closed their doors in the historic downtown. The only exception is the aforementioned Hotel Lővér, which opened under the new operator Danubius Hotels Zrt. in April 2022 after closing in October 2022.
