Food products were the most frequently advertised in May
In May 2016 television commercials for groceries reached the most 18-49 year old viewers, as their GRP was 30,813 points, 6 percent higher than in last May. The GRP shows how many contacts a commercial makes in the examined target group – since viewers can be reached by the same commercial more than once, the GRP index can be higher than 100. In the GRP ranking of sectors food was followed by medicinal products, retail, beauty care and telecommunication. In May the GRP produced the biggest growth, 30 percent in the retail category.
In terms of GRP, in the top 20 of grocery products we find beer, pudding and dairy snack, carbonated soft drink and chocolate bar. Hypermarkets had the highest GRP among retail channels, followed by grocery stores, consumer electronics shops and toy shops if the 18-49 age group is considered. Hungarians were watching television for 265 minutes in real time a day, 1 minute more than a year before. The television channels that Nielsen audits aired 21,468 commercials a day in May 2016. This number is 21 percent bigger than the 17,755 commercials aired last May. At rate card price companies paid HUF 116.6 billion for these commercials – 19 percent more than in the base period. /
