Bird flu has also reached the county of Somogy
This time, the laboratory of the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih) detected the presence of the highly pathogenic bird flu virus in Somogy county. In addition, the disease was also identified in a new area of the county of Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok, which was already affected by the infection. The liquidation of the affected herds and the epidemiological investigation are ongoing.
The animal health authority confirmed the presence of the highly pathogenic avian influenza virus in the fattening turkey colony of approximately 3,370 individuals in the Mike settlement of Somogy county, and the 3,870 liver goose colony in Zagyvarékas, Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok county, with 3,870 individuals. In both cases, the reduced feed and water consumption, as well as the increased mortality, raised the suspicions of the livestock keepers.
The Nébih laboratory detected the H5N1 subtype of the virus from the dead animals
The affected stocks are being liquidated. A protective zone with a radius of 3 km was designated around the farms, and a surveillance (observation) zone with a radius of 10 km was set up. The current cases also show that bird flu is present in almost the entire country, so it is extremely important for livestock keepers to exercise caution, not only in areas already affected, but also in areas free of bird flu.
