There will be much stricter controls against foreign carriers who play tricks with licenses and harm Hungarians
More than two million heavy goods vehicles cross Hungary every year, and our country could benefit significantly more from the huge transit traffic: in the case of quality services – for example, the construction of guarded parking lots and accommodation – and more efficient toll and permit checks, as well as faster border crossings, Hungarian businesses and the budget could receive additional income of up to several billion forints.
According to the Association of Hungarian Logistics Service Centers (MLSZKSZ), the government’s planned measures affecting the logistics sector – creating the conditions for infrastructure development, stricter official controls, introducing a minimum service fee, etc. – can provide solutions to decades-old problems, promoting the construction of a more attractive logistics infrastructure, filtering out tricky foreign carriers and increasing the competitiveness of the Hungarian freight transport market.
In our country, the logistics sector accounts for more than 5 percent of the annual GDP, which could even double if Hungary were to make better use of its geopolitical capabilities. Currently, more than two million heavy goods vehicles cross the country by road alone every year, and millions of tons of transit goods are handled by rail, road and water.
