A lot of beer is sold on Balaton InterCity trains
On the Balaton InterCity trains, passengers are satisfied with the improvements and likely also with the prices, as they consumed 2500 hamburgers and 4375 pints of beer on board since early June. According to the report from the Somogy county news portal Sonline, during the tourist season, there are 124 daily trains operating with various passenger service facilities, including bistro or dining cars, sleeper cars, and couchette cars.
The article mentions that the popularity of the reorganized onboard and station catering, which was done three years ago, is evident in the nearly full international trains, the complete utilization of the Balaton dining cars, and the expanding services.
This summer, out of the ten dining cars that are part of the Balaton IC (InterCity) service, six have been renovated both externally and internally. Passenger satisfaction with these upgrades has contributed to the success of beer and hamburger sales.
As part of the Balaton IC service, dining cars operate every two hours between Budapest and Keszthely, offering traditional Hungarian dishes alongside street food-style options.
Regarding prices, the Start Burger costs 1690 Hungarian forints in 2023, representing a 13.4% increase compared to last year’s 1490 forints. The Classic and Vega Burgers are priced the same as the Start Burger, while the menu option (hamburger, fries, 0.5-liter draft beer or soft drink) is priced at 2470 forints.
