We managed to protect the interests of Hungarian farmers in Brussels as well
Thanks to the joint action of the five EU member states bordering Ukraine, the European Commission has extended the ban on the import of certain agricultural products from Ukraine to the EU until September 15, 2023, Minister of Agriculture István Nagy announced on his social media page.
The head of the ministry explained that the import ban applies to wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower seeds from Ukraine. The success of the five member states involved is that the Commission considers the extended import ban also valid for contracts concluded before May 2. At the same time, Hungary repealed the national-level restriction, which abolishes all previously introduced unilateral national trade measures, so that only the import restrictions on the four products included in the EU regulation remain in force. The extension period creates an opportunity for a common European solution to solve the grain market situation, which takes into account the increased burdens of the most affected member states, the interests of farmers and ensures real joint burden-bearing at the EU level. The Hungarian government always stands by the Hungarian farmers, and in this situation it is only open to an agreement that guarantees their interests in the long term, he added.
István Nagy emphasized that transit shipments can continue to pass through the country unimpeded
In addition to making every effort to protect Hungarian agriculture and farmers, the Hungarian government supports the original goal of the solidarity corridors, which ensures that Ukrainian agricultural products can reach third countries in need.
