24 percent pays attention to sugar-content
For many years, Lidl Hungary has placed special emphasis on the promotion of health-conscious nutrition. In 2015, he launched the program “Healthy at school” in order to draw attention to the importance of healthy nutrition for children and to share knowledge about it with parents. This year, the focus was on making healthy snacks, and the discount chain was also looking for the “Most Health-conscious Department”. In addition, Lidl launched an online survey to map the form in which health-conscious nutrition is present in Hungarian households.
The popularity of the campaign is indicated by the fact that nearly 250 healthy recipes from around the country were submitted to the announced competition. The title of “Most Health-Conscious Department” was earned by the 3rd grade of the Gábor Bethlen Primary School in Hajdúböszörmény. Nearly 4,300 people took part in the non-representative research, most of them (74%) were parents with children. The answers show, among other things, that 18% of parents always, 69% usually pay attention to the fact that the meals they prepare or buy are healthier, for example, they are made with less sugar, salt or vegetable oil instead of animal fat. Before buying, a quarter of parents (28%) always, two-thirds (66%) sometimes find out about the energy and nutrient content indicated on the product label, of which the amount of sugar most influences the decision in the majority of them (24% of the respondents).
