Tesco has appointed Péter Sebestyén as its National Operations Director, who will manage the operations of both the nearly 200 Hungarian stores and the central warehouse from February 1, 2026. The specialist began his career at the company in procurement two decades ago, where he rose through several different positions to become the Central European Procurement Director, and from there he is now moving up even further. The new leader is motivated by professional and human development as much as by results, which is why he is confident that he will learn a lot from his team of several thousand people during their joint work.

A new specialist has been holding the position of National Operations Director at Tesco since February 2026. Péter Sebestyén joined the company 20 years ago supporting the procurement area, and four years later he led the commercial business as a director. In 2014, he took over the management of Tesco’s online ordering service Otthonrol, and from 2017, he managed the commercial planning of the Central European region in the non-food area. In 2019, he was appointed Regional Purchasing Director for non-food products, from where he advanced to his current position after more than six years.

The new senior manager is responsible for ensuring that goods from the central warehouse reach the stores and customers as quickly and in the best quality as possible. His scope of authority covers the entire supply chain, including the logistics center in Szigetszentmiklós and the operation of all – nearly 200 – Tesco stores in Hungary, across the country. An important part of his job is to ensure that the set goals are achieved in the stores in accordance with the operational plans.

“It is a great honour to be asked to lead such a comprehensive and complex area. The world is changing at an extremely fast pace, both technologically, commercially and personally. That is why it is important that Tesco’s operations respond to real customer needs. In order to best serve our customers, good performance alone is not enough, we also need to be relevant. That is why my aim is not to follow events, but to work closely with the marketing and purchasing teams to make a value proposition available in stores that meets the needs of customers today and tomorrow. Thinking together as a team is very motivating, I like when everyone adds something to the common. That is why I am grateful for the feedback from team members, because it is not only the result that matters, but also the journey that leads to it. And learning and fine-tuning do not weaken us, but strengthen us. I am confident that together we can continue to create outstanding value in the retail sector. market”

– said Péter Sebestyén, Tesco’s new national operations director.
