Deterioration in consumer confidence in the United States in January

The Conference Board Consumer Confidence Index, which had increased in December, retreated in January. The Index now stands at 111.8 points, down from 113.3 in December.

The Present Situation Index increased from 123.5 to 129.7, but the Expectations Index decreased from 106.4 last month to 99.8.

The monthly Consumer Confidence Survey®, based on a probability-design random sample, is conducted for The Conference Board by Nielsen, a leading global provider of information and analytics around what consumers buy and watch. The cutoff date for the preliminary results was January 19. (MTI)
