GfK’s November German consumer sentiment index worsened
Instead of the strengthening expected by analysts, the GfK German consumer sentiment index for November weakened, primarily due to the worsening income outlook.
According to data published on the institute’s website on Tuesday, the German consumer sentiment index for November fell to minus 24.1 points from minus 22.5 points the previous month. The average of expert expectations showed an improving indicator, minus 22 points.
The income outlook indicator fell to 2.3 points from 15.1 points in the previous month.
The economic expectations indicator for the next 12 months strengthened from minus 1.4 points to plus 0.8 points.
The purchasing willingness index deteriorated for the fifth month, but there was a slight improvement in pessimism, as the indicator strengthened from minus 11.6 points to minus 9.3 points. Meanwhile, the indicator of the willingness to save weakened modestly, changing from 16.1 points to 15.8 points.
