Retail turnover in Romania increased by 9.8 percent in the first two months of 2024 on an annual basis
Retail sales in Romania increased by 9.8 percent in the first two months of 2024 in an annual comparison based on raw data, the National Institute of Statistics (INS) announced on Friday.
The sales revenue from the distribution of food, beverages and tobacco was 5.8 percent higher than in the first two months of 2023, the turnover of non-food products increased by 15.9 percent, and that of fuel by 4.1 percent. Based on calendar-adjusted data, the two-month retail sales revenue was 6.5 percent higher than in the same period in 2023. The turnover of food, beverages and tobacco increased by 3.4 percent, that of non-food products by 11.9 percent, and that of fuel by 2 percent. In February, the raw data showed a 12.3 percent increase in sales revenue on an annual basis. According to calendar-adjusted data, retail turnover in February was 7.1 percent higher than in the same period in 2023. Based on raw data, retail sales rose by 2.6 percent compared to January. According to calendar-adjusted data, retail sales in February were 0.6 percent higher than a month earlier.
