Balázs Csaba Rigó: it seems that customers do not allow profiteering on groceries
Balázs Csaba Rigó, the president of the GVH, spoke on ATV’s Egyenes Beszéd program about the competition office’s investigations into whether the drastic price increases were justified.
“The price increases in the Hungarian food industry are extreme, but everyone’s consumer basket is different. Those who want to make up their losses on other products may be right, but it is necessary to see whether such a large distribution of losses is justified. If the buyers allow it, they can a business wants to make a profit, but the data has been published that consumption has fallen, which means that it seems that the customers will not allow it”
he stated.
As he said, the GVH has a tool, you can ask the traders how much they bought and sold products for, and it is mandatory to give an answer here, so they can see why the prices are rising.
“We will definitely be able to show who is the fool,”
he said, adding that at the end of the investigation there will be a report that will be released for public discussion.
If a violation of competition law is found, the fine may be as much as 10 percent of the total sales of the completed year, but according to Balázs Csaba Rigó, the GVH was not created to “frantically impose fines”.
