The Ministry of National Economy welcomes those interested with an airport relocation
In order to protect the rights of air passengers and strengthen their consumer awareness, the employees of the Ministry of National Economy (NGM), responsible for consumer protection, will provide information to interested passengers at Liszt Ferenc International Airport on November 27 about air passenger rights and the legal remedies available in the event of flight delays or cancellations, the ministry announced in a statement on Wednesday.
During the outreach on November 27, the ministry’s employees will answer questions and potential complaints from both domestic and foreign passengers in order to ensure that consumers are aware of the legal options available to them under the EU regulation.
The outreach aims to increase consumer awareness in connection with denied boarding, flight delays, flight cancellations, and baggage problems.
The NGM statement drew attention to the fact that in the domestic consumer protection institutional system, in addition to government agencies acting within the consumer protection authority and conciliation bodies, the European Consumer Centre (ECC) operating within the Ministry of National Economy also plays an important role in protecting the rights of air passengers, and its staff will play a key role during the relocation of the ministry.
As a domestic member of an EU network, the ECC provides free, non-official complaint handling assistance and advice in the event of cross-border consumer complaints against businesses and airlines located in other EU member states, Iceland, Norway or the United Kingdom. Its effectiveness is demonstrated by the fact that the ECC received nearly two thousand cross-border complaints last year, and thanks to the organization, the injured consumers received more than 62 million forints. With the help of the ECHR, consumers can therefore avoid lengthy and costly cross-border legal proceedings.
