The maintenance of wellness hotels is hopeless, according to the honorary president of the Association of Hungarian Hotels and Restaurants
Some of the guests go to the hotels specifically for the wellness, so it is not possible to close the hotels for a long time. The honorary president of the Association of Hungarian Hotels and Restaurants expects help from the government.
The wellness hotels are in the biggest trouble, since the energy costs are the highest there on a territorial basis. Wellness needs to be cooled and heated depending on the season, but there was an amazing price explosion on the energy market, said Tamás Flesch, honorary president of the Association of Hungarian Hotels and Restaurants, on InfoRádio.
There are places where the gas bill is eight times as much, and electricity five to ten times as much. This means that the monthly energy bill of 10-12 million in a 150-room wellness hotel is now close to one hundred million forints, so it has fallen into the unmanageable category. According to Tamás Flesch, “the situation is incredibly complicated”, as he believes that the wellness department cannot be paused. Some hotels operate because the largest percentage of guests go there specifically for wellness.
Most hotels with high gas and electricity consumption will most likely have to close. According to the president of the association, the wellness hotel has not yet closed, but the invoices showing the price increase will come out in November and December. In several hotels, they plan to close only for the months of January-February, possibly March, which is also a complicated task due to the retention of the workforce.
