Mars has achieved a record reduction in carbon dioxide emissions
Mars has released its Sustainability in a Generation 2023 report, which reveals that the company achieved a record 8% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions last year. With this, compared to the base value of 2015, it produced the largest one-year carbon footprint reduction, doubling the result achieved in the entire value chain, which is a 16% reduction based on the starting year. During the same period, Mars’ annual sales increased by more than 60% to over $50 billion.
The 5.7 million tonnes of absolute greenhouse gas emission reductions were achieved across Mars’ entire value chain, putting the company on track to halve its carbon emissions by 2030.
Since nearly 60% of Mars’ carbon footprint comes from agriculture, the company is continuing the investments it has already started to expand climate-conscious farming. Thanks to these, by 2030, the raw material needed for Mars’ food and pet food products will come from more than 1 million hectares of regenerative agricultural land worldwide.
Poul Weihrauch, CEO of Mars, said that the results just announced reflect a strategy to ensure the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions and the growth of the company at the same time.
