China spent the most on advertising during the World Cup
Though the Chinese national team did not qualify for the World Cup, the Chinese companies pay huge amounts of money on commercials. The event is a great opportunity for the Chinese companies less well-known to the West to get their name on the global market as well.
Four out of the 12 official sponsors of the World Cup are Chinese. The names of these companies are virtually visible on bulletin boards placed next to the football pitches.
Overall, the Chinese have spent the most on marketing during the World Cup, totaling 800 million USD. (origo)
