György Raskó: after the price cap, the price of Trappist cheese may drop by up to HUF 1,000 per kilo
According to agricultural economist György Raskó, the price of Trappist cheese per kilo may drop by up to HUF 1,000 if the price cap is removed.
In his interview with Magyar Hang, György Raskó said, among other things, that if the price cap were introduced, people would go back to buying milk with a fat content of 1.5 percent from 2.8 percent milk, so there would be more milk fat, and the products made from it – such as butter or cheese – and its price would start to fall within two or three weeks after the launch.
György Raskó also gave specific examples of the harmful effects of price caps. According to his calculations, a trans-Danubian small entrepreneur with an annual income of three billion and six stores suffered a monthly loss of two million forints in May, six million in September, and ten million forints in December due to the price caps. The purchase price is getting further and further away from the official price. The six stores lost HUF 48 million due to the price caps alone.
