LG’s 2025 OLED TVs Earn Prestigious Sustainability Certifications
LG Electronics (LG) has received globally recognized sustainability certifications for its 2025 OLED TVs. These latest accolades further demonstrate LG’s commitment to environmental responsibility and creating advanced products that contribute to a more sustainable world.
For the fifth consecutive year, LG OLED evo TVs have received the Reducing CO2 and Measured CO2 certifications from the Carbon Trust, a global climate advisory organization that advocates for a carbon-neutral future. These certifications assess a product’s environmental impact across its entire lifecycle, from manufacturing to distribution, use, and disposal.
LG OLED TVs have performed exceptionally well in the rigorous tests. This is partly due to the fact that, unlike LED technology, OLED’s self-emitting pixel technology eliminates the need for a separate screen backlight, reducing the number of components and overall material usage. On the other hand, LG OLED TVs feature ultra-lightweight, fiber-reinforced composite materials, which means less plastic is used and the device weighs less. LG’s 65-inch OLED evo TV, for example, is 20 percent lighter than a conventional LCD TV of the same size and contains 60 percent less plastic.
As a result, LG expects that by 2025, the plastic used in the production of OLED TVs will be approximately 16,000 tons less than if the company were to produce the same amount of LCD TVs. In addition, LG estimates that it will reduce the amount of carbon dioxide generated during manufacturing and transportation by 84,000 tons in the future, which is equivalent to the amount of CO2 absorbed annually by a 30-year-old pine forest the size of 11,000 football fields.
Also new this year, LG’s latest OLED TVs have been awarded the Resource Efficiency Certification by Intertek, a globally recognized testing and certification organization. This certification is a thorough assessment of material efficiency, which includes recyclable design, reduced use of harmful substances and ease of repair, as well as energy efficiency and the use of recycled plastics. Meeting these stringent standards demonstrates LG’s commitment to sustainability and eco-conscious design.
In 2024, LG used approximately 30 percent recycled plastic in the production of its TVs, reusing approximately 6,300 tons of plastic waste. The company plans to increase the proportion of recycled plastic to 50 percent by 2025, which corresponds to approximately 7,700 tons of plastic waste used annually.
