The return machines in Aldi are available from now on
Starting this Friday, MOHU (Mol Waste Management Ltd.) recycling machines will operate in one hundred and seventy-two Aldi stores nationwide, allowing the collection of disposable PET, metal, and glass bottles that originally came with a deposit fee, as stated in the company’s press release.
The recyclability is also separately indicated on price tags visible on the store shelves. The recyclable bottles thrown into the machines are crushed, and MOHU takes care of transporting them and sorting the material obtained from them for recycling. Initially, the Aqua+ branded soft drink bottles can be returned at Aldi. Customers receive a 50 HUF refund per bottle, provided in the form of redeemable coupons at the purchase location. However, this amount can also be allocated for charitable purposes, and from April onwards, customers are expected to transfer it to their bank accounts.
At the beginning of February, MOHU’s recycling machines were already operational in one thousand six hundred stores, but they remained underutilized as beverage manufacturers were given until the end of June to transition to deposit-based packaging. With the collaboration with Aldi, MOHU hopes to revitalize bottle recycling and offer an attractive opportunity for consumers to contribute to recycling efforts.
