The Hungarian Food Bank Association’s Christmas campaign starts on Friday
From Friday to Sunday, as part of the Food Bank’s traditional Christmas campaign, a total of 6,500 volunteers will collect non-perishable food donations for the needy at more locations than ever before, in 365 stores in 154 settlements in Hungary, the organization told MTI on Tuesday.
At the weekend, at 365 locations across the country, in the stores of four retail chains, Tesco, ALDI, Auchan and METRO, volunteers of the Food Bank wearing green vests will collect the donations at designated collection points near the cash registers.
Non-perishable food items will be accepted on Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and on Sunday until 6:00 p.m., the organizers informed, adding that Tesco will donate an amount equal to 20 percent of the value of the products donated in its stores, as well as pre-prepared donation packages intended for families of four. also helps the work of the Food Bank.
They drew attention to the fact that food that does not require refrigeration, primarily canned food, rice, pasta and accompanying sauces, baby food, cooking oil, shelf-stable milk and sweets, are the most helpful for the needy.
With their donations, customers can directly help people with a difficult fate in their surroundings. The Food Bank distributes the collected foodstuffs to the needy in the period before the holidays, and in the coldest weeks of January, with the help of charitable organizations operating in the vicinity of individual stores.
