A complaint was filed against Chinese honey in the EU
With the professional support of the Ministry of Agriculture (AM), the National Hungarian Bee Association (OMME) filed an anti-dumping complaint against honey coming from China to the European Union. 14 organizations from 11 member countries joined the submission, the department announced on Tuesday.
Support for the domestic beekeeping industry
The Ministry of Agriculture emphasized that the domestic beekeeping industry, which is significantly affected by the effects of imported Asian honey arriving in the Union, must be supported by all means. In addition to the problem of honey imports, another key element of the sector is pollination, which is essential for agriculture. The Ministry of Agriculture emphasized that beekeeping is one of the most important sectors in agriculture, so they do everything to support the work of beekeepers and the preservation of the domestic bee population.
The anti-dumping complaint and the acceding countries
OMME has filed an anti-dumping complaint to suppress Chinese artificial honey. The petition was joined by several of the largest honey-producing countries, including Romania, France, Italy, Germany and Poland, with the exception of Spain. The association is currently awaiting comments from the European Commission.
Effects of artificial honey on the European honey market
The main difficulty on the European honey market is caused by artificial honey arriving in the EU from Asia. Products produced at low prices have a market-repressing and price-cutting effect, which threatens the survival of European beekeepers. The announcement of the Ministry of Agriculture emphasized that beekeeping is a key sector in Hungarian agriculture, and that our country has made possible the tax-free nature of beekeeping activity in a unique way in Europe.
