In autumn, another big wave of food price increases is expected in Hungary
Domestic animal breeding enterprises have found themselves in a critical situation, because the drastic cost increases have pushed even the most efficient farmers to the brink of unprofitability – emphasizes Dávid Hollósi, head of the Agricultural and Food Business Division of MKB Bank Nyrt. and Takarékbank Zrt., a member of the Magyar Bankholding group, in an interview with agrárszektor.hu executive director. Among other things, due to rising input material and feed prices due to the Russo-Ukrainian war, Hungarian agriculture today lacks several hundreds of billions of HUF in working capital, primarily in the livestock sectors. In order for the players in agriculture not to go bankrupt, the rough cost increases must be incorporated into consumer prices, so after this year’s harvest – expected from autumn – domestic customers can expect another big wave of food price increases.
