ÖRT-NKFH workshop: focus on ethical advertising and cooperation with authorities
The Self-Regulatory Advertising Board (ÖRT) and the National Trade and Consumer Protection Authority (NKFH) held a joint online workshop, for which more than 90 participants registered. One of the highlights of the event was that the newly established authority introduced itself to ÖRT members, providing them with an opportunity to learn about the structure and work of the organization under the Ministry of National Economy (NGM). The aim of the event was to promote ethical advertising and share experiences of regulatory inspections.
The workshop was opened by Dr. Kálmán Molnár, President of ÖRT, emphasizing that ÖRT considers cooperation with the authorities to be a priority task. He highlighted that prior compliance is key for advertisers, for which the authorities’ inspection experiences provide valuable guidance. “ÖRT hopes that a similar cooperation agreement can be reached with the NKFH, as we previously concluded with the Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH)” – concluded the ÖRT President in his welcoming speech.
The professional speaker of the event was Dr. Krisztina Kimmel, Head of the Inspection Support Department of the Consumer Protection Service Inspection Department of the NKFH. In her presentation, she presented the activities of the NKFH and outlined the main points of the 2025 Inspection and Inspection Program (EVP), with particular attention to advertising regulation issues. She highlighted that the advertising inspections of 2023 and 2024 showed basically good results, which proves the growing demand of businesses involved in advertising to comply with the law.
Dr. Krisztina Kimmel elaborated on the focus areas highlighted in 2025, which also affect advertising, including child protection, advertising of alcohol products, regulation of advertising in the digital space, and monitoring consumer opinions. In response to a question, she indicated that the results of the thematic inspections of 2023 and 2024 referred to in the presentation would be available on the NKFH website, thus ensuring access to information and transparency for the professional audience. At the event, the students also received answers to their questions, during which several practical observations were raised regarding the competence of the consumer protection authority and the inspection processes.
The organizer of the workshop, Zsolt Gerendi, Secretary General of ÖRT, highlighted that the great interest also proves the importance of cooperation in the field of advertising inspections. ÖRT’s strategic goal is to facilitate prior compliance and to make the principles of ethical advertising as widely known as possible, which they intend to continue in the future.
