SPAR calls for national cooperation – pet food collection begins for four-legged friends in need
This year, SPAR Hungary and the National Animal Welfare Foundation are organizing their joint pet food collection campaign called “Paws in Trouble!” for the fifth time. The aim of the initiative is to provide better care for animals living in shelters and waiting for their owners, and to reduce the financial burden on the organizations that care for them – all with the selfless help of customers.
This year’s collection will take place on Saturday and Sunday, May 10-11, 2025, in all INTERSPAR stores in the country, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily. More than thirty non-governmental animal welfare organizations are participating in the campaign, who are waiting for donations at collection points set up in the forecourts of the stores.
During the campaign, animal welfare activists collect dry food, canned food, wet food, treats, equipment and cleaning products to support dogs and cats living in shelters. Customers can hand over their donations to the volunteers after the checkout. Since each organization determines what it needs based on its own needs, it is worth asking on site – this helps with targeted and truly useful donations. One of the most important messages of the “Paw in Trouble!” campaign is that even the smallest donation counts. Even a package of dry food or a can can mean a lot to an animal in a shelter.
“SPAR has been supporting pet food collections for many years, coordinated by the National Animal Welfare Foundation, because we believe that a responsible retail company should support not only its customers, but also the community as a whole, including the most vulnerable – including animals. We encourage cooperation year after year, and it is a special pleasure that our customers have stood and continue to stand by us in this matter with a clearly visible commitment”
– said Márk Maczelka, SPAR’s Head of Communications.
