National monitoring network helps farmers in effective pest control

The national monitoring network of the National Chamber of Agriculture has been expanded with new points. Weekly trapping data helps farmers to carry out the necessary plant protection treatments in time.

With the arrival of spring, the activity of pests also increases. Plant protection forecasts are essential for determining the optimal time for protection. Since the period when the pest is still vulnerable and damage can be prevented by pesticide treatment is often short, the forecast is always valid for a given area and only for a certain time interval. The national monitoring network of the National Chamber of Agriculture provides assistance for successful protection, which will continue to monitor pests with an increased number of forecast points from this year. We monitor the swarming of the horse chestnut borer at 10 locations (Bp. III., Bp. VIII., Bp. XI., Debrecen, Hatvan, Kecskemét, Maroslele, Siklós, Tanakajd), the swarming of fruit pests at 8 locations (Bp. XI., Budakalász, Debrecen, Győr, Kecskemét, Maroslele, Siklós, Zalaegerszeg), the swarming of the silky boxwood moth at 6 locations (Bp. VIII., Debrecen, Maroslele, Siklós, Székesfehérvár, Szombathely), the swarming of bark beetles at 2 locations (Bp. XI., Budakalász), and the swarming of the American grape cicada at 1 location (Siklós).

Based on the meteorological forecasts of the last few days, it is justified to start monitoring pests due to the increasing average temperatures

In the last week of March, NAK specialists set out traps for fruit pests and the horse chestnut borer. Monitoring of other insect species will begin later, according to their ecological needs. Farmers can find out about the catch data weekly on the chamber’s website.
