World Bread Day celebrated with a national charity event
The Hungarian Bakers’ Association organized a national fundraiser for the first time this year on the occasion of World Bread Day. 26 bakeries and baking companies joined the campaign, offering more than 1.6 tons of fresh bread and baked goods to those in need.
The donations are delivered by the Hungarian Red Cross to children’s institutions, family support centers and social institutions. As part of the collaboration, donations were received in Budapest and several rural cities – including Győr, Kaposvár, Kecskemét, Eger and Szeged.
“Sharing bread is a symbolic act: it sends the message that we take care of each other as a community”
– said József Septe, president of the Hungarian Bakers’ Association, adding that the social responsibility of the baking profession is also evident in everyday life.
The Association’s goal is for the initiative to become a tradition and for even more bakeries to participate in the national campaign in the future.
