National Mountain Judges Conference held in Cserkeszőlő – focus on the mountain village system and wine administration

Cserkeszőlő hosted this year’s National Hill Judges Conference, where professional organizations reviewed the current challenges of the grape and wine sector and the operation of the administrative system. The event presented the status of the hill village system, with particular attention to the tasks of the hill judge network and the regulatory changes of recent years.

The conference stated:

– The traditional framework for the management of Hungarian grape and wine production is the hill village system, which was reorganized on new foundations by the 2012 Hill Village Act. The regulation also provided a unified framework for the representation of producers’ interests, control powers and the tasks of mountain judges.
– The National Council of Mountain Communities (HNT) has been operating as an interprofessional organization since 2014, coordinating the professional interests of producers and wineries.
– The 2020 Wine Act transformed wine administration and expanded the scope of the so-called “one-stop shop”, as a result of which grape and wine producers can handle more and more matters with mountain judges.

The conference also discussed digitalization aimed at reducing administrative burdens. The plans include the introduction of a unified winemaking IT system, which could simplify the management of records and reports in the long term. According to professional organizations, it is also important for smaller wineries and small producers to receive help in applying the new rules.

The participants also discussed the stability of the mountain village system, the role of the mountain magistrate network and the next steps in the digital transition. The aim of the event was to strengthen professional cooperation and further develop the administrative system of the grape and wine sector.
