Optimism at Europe’s Day in Commerce
The National Association of Entrepreneurs and Employers (VOSZ) organised its programme to celebrate Europe’s Day in Commerce for the eleventh time. László Krisán, president of VOSZ’s trade and service provider section told at the event that the retail trade sector employs 500,000 people and had realised a turnover above HUF 8,000 billion last year. VOSZ general secretary Ferenc Dávid underlined that every single person is working hard in the sector and these people deserve a decent wage, at the same time criticising the current wage negotiations. Minister for National Economy Mihály Varga told that the main driver of the 3-percent growth in grocery retail and the 7-percent increase in non-food retail is the country’s good economic performance: according to the latest report of the Central Statistical Office (KSH), Hungary’s GDP grew by 3.7 percent and 555,000 new jobs were created. Europe’s Day in Commerce is also the day when those working in the sector are honoured with the Klauzál Gábor Diploma of Merit and the For Hungarian Retail Grand Prize. The programme ended with presentations by Dr Ákos Kozák (GfK Hungária), Attila Prosits (Westend Properrty Management), Csaba Belovai (Zwack Unicum) and Lajos Delbó (Spar Hungary).
