Opportunities in Canada
In mid-February the plenary session of the European Parliament voted in favour of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) between the EU and Canada. It is now the parliaments of member states that need to give their approval. Thanks to the CETA, the EU’s trading with Canada will be given a boost and most customs duties will be abolished. It is very important to note that the CETA won’t modify EU standards.
The trade agreement will make it easier for EU citizens to offer certain services (e.g. legal, accounting, engineering, etc.) in Canada. CETA will also facilitate temporary staying for the employees of enterprises in both the EU and Canada. Exporting to Canada will also become easier, for instance European businesses are now allowed to export 92 percent of their agri-food products to Canada duty-free.
