The exhibitors of Startup-Sziget are waiting for you!
Between March 5-7, startups will be in the spotlight for the first time at the SIRHA Budapest exhibition. The appearance, organized by Trade magazine and Lánchíd Klub, is supported this year by the Ministry of Agriculture, Hungexpo, and METRO.
Nine young startup companies were selected from the applicants, out of a total of 20 businesses, who can participate in the SIRHA exhibition this year with 100% support. Let’s see who they are.
Cricket protein-based products from Cricks Farm
Established in 2022, Cricks aims to make sustainable and healthy nutrition accessible and attractive to everyone. The startup produces products containing cricket protein and is working on setting up a smart cricket farm. They were the first to introduce cricket protein products in Hungary, placing this cornerstone in the heart of Central Europe. Through their work, they aim to familiarize people with the numerous benefits of edible insects and break the taboos associated with them.
Cricket protein is an excellent source of protein, rich in essential amino acids, iron, and B12 vitamin. Moreover, cricket protein production has a small ecological footprint, contributing to the creation of a sustainable future.
New Dishwashing Solution from Greenwash Solutions
Greenwash Solutions, a startup, has developed a unique industrial dishwashing system, taking over the white dishwashing of restaurants, along with the complete responsibility and problem-solving it entails. With their service, they aim to help their restaurant partners deal with the daily challenge of unresponsive dishwasher staff or even the limited possibilities provided by the venue.
Greenwash Solutions ensures clean serving utensils every day, along with washing them in their own facility. The investment covers only two consecutive days’ worth of serving utensils, ensuring that used utensils are replaced with clean ones every day at closing, taking the quality of restaurant operations to a new level. They have achieved at least a 25% cost reduction for their previous partners, making them never want to go back to traditional dishwashing.
Special Wine Selection from Mentes Bor
The Mentes Bor webshop offers a wide range of wines, including low-histamine, natural, and dealcoholized wines. In 2021, they were the first in Hungary to start selling guaranteed low-histamine, vegan organic wines. The range was quickly expanded to include low-sulfite, sulfur-free, and fructose- and sorbitol-reduced items. In late 2022, they launched their alcohol-free product line, which has also significantly grown since then. The startup’s portfolio currently includes the widest range of quality and truly delicious wine and sparkling wine.
Mentes Bor aims to make the experience of carefree wine tasting available to those with histamine sensitivity, allergies, health issues, or those who simply want to consciously choose quality wines. Their alcohol-free range is also a perfect choice for diabetics, health-conscious/vegan consumers, pregnant/nursing mothers, or even drivers.
Contributing to Sustainability with Munch
Munch is a platform where bakeries, restaurants, pastry shops, retail units, and hotels can sell their unsold but high-quality food at a discount. Its goal is to promote sustainable, responsible hospitality and commerce through reducing food waste. Munch was created by four young individuals who, using modern technology, fight against food waste. Through their app, over 1 million people have already saved, or in other words, purchased food at a discount. Munch’s partners gain extra income through this service, while buyers can enjoy eating at 40-70% off, significantly reducing the burden on the environment.
The platform’s newest initiative, Munch Market (market.munch.hu), is a waste-reducing marketplace that expands Munch’s current value proposition and fundamentally changes the fight against waste for wholesale units. At Munch Market, manufacturers and wholesalers can sell their close-to-expiration, slightly flawed, or out-of-season products at a budget-friendly price.
Kombucha from Nature Taste
After careful planning, Nature Taste Kft. created Steap Tea Kombucha by combining ancient traditions and modern science to showcase the best face of the used tea. The tea is an innovative, intervention-free, naturally storable product. They carefully craft it from the infusion of carefully selected, real plants, alcohol-free, responding to the needs of today’s consumers. Kombucha has many different origins, but it is certain that it comes from the fabulous landscapes of ancient Far East and required a series of coincidences and the involvement of innovative explorers to find the opportunity and have the courage to tame the soured tea.
Steap Tea Kombucha is already available nationwide in cafes, restaurants, stores, or even online.
Loving Indulgence from GreenGorilla
GreenGorilla offers an alternative for those who follow a free diet or want to reduce the consumption of animal-derived ingredients. Sweet Gorilla Free Cake Bakery was founded in Óbuda in 2023. All of their products are vegan, gluten-free, and made with love. They deliver their sliced and frozen cakes to their partners, ensuring that they have easily, quickly, and losslessly usable, easily manageable desserts.
Due to the high-quality ingredients and the no-bake, quick-freezing process, their products have high nutritional value, and valuable vitamins and minerals are not lost during the manufacturing process.
Rethinking Products with Transfoodmission
Transfoodmission connects surplus and waste from the food industry with available manufacturing capacity through an embedded R&D system. It radically transforms thinking about resources with upcycled products. The food innovation venture shows industry players and consumers alike through questioning the current operation of the food system “what waste tastes like.”
Dalmadi Júlia, a food futurist entrepreneur, introduced the first upcycled food brand in Hungary called Secontaste (formerly Ételmentő) in 2021, using by-products from brewing and coffee processing. Their services to manufacturers, processors, and retailers include private label product development, upcycled ingredients, and product and category management.
Vegadokk Exclusively Uses Plant-Based Ingredients
Vegadokk Kft. is committed to a more sustainable diet, offering innovative solutions that allow everyone to enjoy their delicious and nutritious foods while considering dietary restrictions. Their vegan-free products provide a rich flavor profile and are easily customizable to create new and exciting dishes. With their powdered bases, anyone can be a supporter of environmentally friendly nutrition, contributing to creating a more sustainable future.
They use exclusively plant-based ingredients, whose production has a lower environmental impact. Their products are rich in fiber, vitamins, and minerals essential for the human body. With high protein content, 90% slowly absorbed carbohydrates, and naturally occurring sugars, their products can be used in various diets.
Refillable Products from Zöldkör Market
Zöldkör Market offers refillable products on its online platform. By doing so, it helps companies and households buy less packaging material for products, reducing their waste production and saving money. In the Zöldkör Market online store, buyers can choose from various brands and manufacturers for cleaning and hygiene products. Zöldkör Market delivers the ordered products, collects them back, and performs the refill.
The startup was included in Forbes Hungary’s TOP 10 Innovative Sustainability Companies/Projects in 2022. Their partners include bars, Booking/Airbnb accommodation operators and owners, companies, and larger households.
