Online: shower gel and mineral water are the top picks
Nielsen asked consumers in 60 countries which products (from a list of 72) they intend to buy online in the following 6 months. In general more consumers plan to purchase household chemicals and cosmetics than groceries. In Hungary 24 percent of respondents intend to buy shower gel online, while 20-20 percent named cosmetics and deodorants. Groceries: 12 percent wish to buy mineral water and 11 percent mentioned pasta, coffee and cheese. In the USA 60 percent of goods in an online basket are non-food and 40 percent are food; in physical stores the basket composition is just the other way round. Patrick Dodd, Nielsen’s president of global sales told that certain products groups instantly sell well online, while it takes time for others to produce better sales.
