In October, the economic index of GKI stagnated

In October, consumer expectations improved noticeably, although business prospects worsened somewhat, according to a survey conducted by GKI Gazdaságkutátó – with the support of the EU. The value of the GKI economic index did not change compared to September. The companies’ expectations regarding relatively favorable employment and prices did not change significantly compared to the previous month.

The GKI business confidence index – after September – also decreased in October (by 1.5 points). Although the change remained within the margin of error, the business index approached its lowest point this year. In the second autumn month, industry prospects deteriorated, construction sector prospects improved, while trade and services did not change significantly. In the industry, the assessment of the total order book and self-produced stocks deteriorated significantly compared to September, while the expected production outlook for the next 3 months practically did not change. In the construction industry, the assessment of the order backlog improved to a large extent, while employment expectations stagnated. In trade, the evaluation of the business course of the previous 3 months became slightly more favorable, the level of stocks and the evaluation of orders expected in the next 3 months did not change. In the service sector, the assessment of the business performance of the previous three months and the turnover expectation did not change significantly compared to September.

The deterioration of the mood of the population in September proved to be temporary. The GKI consumer confidence index rose by 4 points on a monthly basis in October, reaching an 18-month record level. The development of the population’s own financial situation for the past and the next 12 months was judged to have improved markedly, while the assessment of the money that can be spent on high-value consumer goods became moderately more favorable.
