Consumer prices in the euro area fell 0.3 percent in October

In the euro area, the consumer price index fell by 0.3 percent year-on-year in October, in line with expectations, which was in line with the decline in September.

The European Union’s statistical office, Eurostat, said on Friday that preliminary inflation excluding energy prices, food prices and the prices of alcohol and tobacco products fell 0.2 percent in October after 0.2 percent in September, the lowest level ever.
Prices for food, alcohol and tobacco products rose 2 percent in October after a 1.8 percent annual rise in September. The rise in prices for services slowed to 0.4 percent after a 0.5 percent rise in September.

Energy prices were 8.4 percent lower than a year earlier, compared with a 8.2 percent decline in September.

Excluding energy prices, annual consumer price inflation was 0.6 percent in October, the same as in September. (MTI)
