OKSZ: care must be taken with returnable bottles
As of July 1, 2024, metal, plastic, and glass beverage packages sold in stores over 400m2 must be exchanged with the return exchange machines provided by MOHU, with the exception of milk-based beverage products.
Since during the transitional period until June 30, 2024, it is still possible to market beverage products with non-returnable packaging, – so even after the first of July, both types of beverage packaging may still be found on the shelves for a short time – so special care must be taken that the “TAKE BACK!” we buy bottles with or without labeling. The customer pays a HUF 50 redemption fee for the product with a mandatory redemption fee at the time of purchase, but he also gets this back if he takes the empty bottles back to a redemption point and redeems them there. There are 3 ways to make a refund:
The voucher issued by the redeeming machine can be exchanged for cash in the store, or its value can be deducted from the total amount of the purchase.
If the customer identifies himself in advance using the so-called REpoint application, he will receive the redemption fee by immediate transfer to the bank account number provided during registration. If the customer asks for a transfer, it is recommended to hold the QR code in the scanner before inserting the bottles and to check the screen before inserting the bottles to see if his name really appears on it.
It is possible to donate the amount to charity.
Before making a return, it is advisable to check the barcode with the REpont mobile phone application and make sure that the product is accepted by the vending machines. If the customer sees the mandatory logo on the bottles – which means that he has already paid the fee at the time of purchase – and despite this the drink packaging cannot be returned (for example due to a MOHU registration error), then it is worth returning it to the return point at a later date. The customer can find information about system use or problem management on the MOHU website or in the mandatory redemption system application. When exchanging, it is also worth following some practical advice, for example, that when inserting the bottle into the machine, you should not insert your hand into the opening, if the scan is unsuccessful, then it must be repeated.
