OKSZ: The margin stop has achieved its goal, it can be phased out at the end of May
According to the National Trade Federation (OKSZ), the inflation data released on May 8 confirm that the margin freeze has achieved its original goal due to the decrease in food prices, so the measure can be lifted as planned at the end of the month – stated Secretary General Tamás Kozák.
According to the federation, the data clearly show that trade has not passed on the pressure on it to consumers. “However, the market has set excessive expectations for the margin freeze measure,” says OKSZ, which sees that maintaining the measure can only have temporary results. Meanwhile, price tensions are growing in the background and could surface at any time.
Tamás Kozák emphasized that trade plays an important intermediary role between producers, suppliers and buyers, but the margin freeze makes this impossible in the long term. According to the federation, it is time to return to market-based operations.
OKSZ remains open to professional dialogue and is ready to cooperate with trade policy decision-makers to create a regulatory environment that facilitates the sector’s more effective contribution to economic growth.
