Eight-percent reduction in the price of pork
According to the Agricultural Economics Research Institute’s (AKI) latest report, wine production in the European Union was 167 million hectolitres in 2014, 8 percent below the level of 2013 (the European Commission’s report was published in April). On the 2nd and 3rd weeks of April 2015 wheat cost HUF 51,000-53,000 per ton and for fodder wheat HUF 44,000-48,000 had to be paid in Hungary. A US Department of Agriculture (USDA) forecast published in April predicts that global pork production can grow by 0.4 percent to 110.87 million tons in 2015 from the level of 2014. In the European Union the price of ‘E’-category slaughter pig was EUR 1.41/kg in March 2015 – this means that the price reduced by 8.4 percent in just a year. In Hungary the price of domestic pork was HUF 428/kg in March 2015, 8.1 percent less than twelve months earlier.
