Eight EU countries have exceeded the milk quota
Eight EU countries have increased their milk production too much in 2013-2014 to prepare for next year's quota abolition. Due to exceeding the milk quota, they have to pay 400 million euros more duties – the European Commission said on Friday.
Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, Denmark, Austria, Ireland, Luxembourg and Cyprus have excessed the national quotas with a total of 1.46 million tonnes. The surplus was particularly significant in Germany, where the dairy farmers have to pay 163.8 million euros. The Dutch have to pay 132.1 million euros, while the Poles canel expect fines of 46.4 million euros. (MTI)
