Summer moments

Marseille is not a very beautiful city, but it offers a chance to eat real bouillabaisse. However, bouillabaisse is not very simple to get, because so many different fish are required for this soup and fishermen sometimes fail to catch all. On such occasions, we are forced to eat a simple fish soup which still tastes incredibly good. The promenade was full of people in the evening. Street vendors were selling whatever we might have been looking for. The atmosphere was relaxed, though it was a bit surprising to hear the sound of Indian drums. There was a „wigwam”, complete with fire in the middle of the promenade. There were also real native American warriors standing in front of the tent, selling their artefacts. It was quite a revelation for us to find out that the “peace” symbol of the 1970’s had been an Indian amulet originally. Is was an even bigger surprise to be asked about our nationality by one of the native Americans in Hunga-rian. As we have found out, he was a Canadian, who used to date a Hungarian girl. We were looking for a restaurant to eat something that is not made from frozen materials. Eventually, we have found a place which looked promising. The waiter was polite without being servile or too familiar. They had what we wanted: soup. A very charming lady appeared and greeted us with a cheerful “Ola”. With exceptional patience, she answered all of our questions about the soup. When she heard that we were Hungarians, she sat down and explained her traditional recipe for making lasagne. Later, she returned with a big plate of tapas and Catalonian specialities, which were naturally not included in the bill. It was delicious and we were delighted. In fact, everything we ate was delicious. Our glasses were refilled upon the slightest eye contact with staff. Perfect is the only word for BEI PEPE and the fiesta we had there. If you happen to go to Santa Susanna, do not forget to visit Carmen and her restaurant.
