Weather, fruit quantity available and market prices – basically these three factors decide what the home preserving (of fruits and vegetables) season will be like. According to Eszter Varga, trade and category manager of Dr. Oetker Hungary, the majority of home-made marmalade, jam, preserves and syrups are made from fruits grown in consumers’ gardens. The price of sugar in the given year is another factor that influences the home preserving of fruits. Shops located close to where people live are key in the sales of home preserving supplies: the work needs to be done quickly when the fruits are ripe.

As part of the health trend, from gelling aids demand is the biggest for sugar-saving product Haas Quittin 3:1. Last year the company put Haas Quittin Sugar Stop on the market: by using this fruits can be preserved without added sugar. Haas comes out with a new product every year. The company’s experience is that shoppers are loyal to the good old gelling aid products, but they also keep an eye on promotions and like to save money by buying multipack offers. This year the company launched new products with those housewives in mind who preserve 4-5kg of fruit at the same time: XXL Haas Quittin 3:1 gelling aid and an 80g Haas Sodium Benzoate product in practical resealable packaging.
