You can apply for the European Waste Reduction Week until November 6
You can apply for promotions for the European Waste Reduction Week, which will be held between November 16 and 24, the main theme of which will be food waste, the Ministry of Energy told MTI until November 6.
At the 16th event, actions are primarily expected to focus on the reduction of the ecological footprint of food consumption, the reuse and recycling of food residues, as well as those that encourage sustainability and knowledge acquisition, they wrote in the announcement.
State Secretary for the Environment and Circular Economy Anikó Raisz was quoted, who reminded that the government introduced a new waste management system and an extended producer responsibility system in the country in July of last year in order to transition to a circular economy as soon as possible.
After that, from the beginning of 2024, the mandatory redemption system and the separate collection of bio-waste started in Hungary, which ensures that as a result of utilization, the highest possible purity of material can be returned to the natural organic material cycle, and that the biodegradable content of municipal waste in landfills is reduced.
The State Secretary pointed out that 132 kilograms of food waste is generated per person in the European Union every year, while around 37 million people can only afford to eat quality food every other day, which is why this year’s campaign focused on food waste, which Hungary is also dealing with. committed.
