It was announced that the application of modern irrigation technologies continues to be a key strategic direction for the group of companies, and in this spirit, six new irrigation farms have been completed in three years. Talentis Agro has significantly increased its irrigated areas with the help of the Bakuczi Öntözézi Közösség Kft. and Csárdaszállási Öntözézi Közösség Kft. irrigation farms located in Békés County. The agricultural group remains committed to ensuring increasingly efficient water use, thereby increasing crop security and the competitiveness of agriculture. The ceremony was attended and addressed by Imre Hubai, State Secretary for Agriculture, Lőrinc Mészáros, owner of the Mészáros Group, and Szabolcs Makai, CEO of Talentis Agro Zrt., representing the Ministry of Agriculture. The State Secretary drew attention to the fact that the Hungarian government has been taking over the agricultural water service fee from farmers for the third year in a row, which is not just a subsidy, but also a strategic decision to ensure that the price of water does not become an obstacle to irrigation and the stabilization of yields and incomes in agriculture. “We consider it important to support those farms with high agro-ecological potential, in which, in addition to favorable conditions, products with high biological value, which can be produced in a sustainable and environmentally responsible manner, represent significant added value on the market, and thus contribute in the long term to strengthening rural communities, economic stability, and increasing consumer confidence,” explained Imre Hubai, State Secretary for Agriculture, according to the statement.
Lőrinc Mészáros, owner of the Mészáros Group, highlighted in his speech that in recent years the group has invested nearly 8 billion forints in irrigation development investments and plans to implement further similar projects
“Our goal is to reach 13 thousand hectares by 2030, which represents 20 percent of our total land area. The two sites handed over today provide modern irrigation on a total of nearly 500 hectares, with more than 20 new pieces of equipment. Modern water management solutions and the development of water-saving irrigation infrastructure are the basis of the agriculture of the future, farmers and production communities can work under more predictable conditions, and they also contribute significantly to domestic food self-sufficiency. Thanks to previous and current developments, crop yields can increase up to fourfold, and harvesting efficiency and crop quality will also improve significantly,” emphasized Lőrinc Mészáros. The new irrigation complex of the Bakuczi Irrigation Community covers an area of 386 hectares and has 10 rotary irrigation systems, while the new development of the Csárdaszállás Irrigation Community covers an area of 106 hectares, where in addition to 3 rotary systems, 3 new linear irrigation systems are also in operation. The developments were implemented with nearly 1.6 billion forints with EU support. Szabolcs Makai, CEO of Talentis Agro Zrt., emphasized that if you look back, numerous projects prove that the group is committed to new investments, especially irrigation developments. “As before, our goal remains to produce and provide quality domestic raw materials, to maintain and develop Hungarian agriculture. Although we have primarily emphasized methods and technology so far, we all know that the basis of a successful investment is always coordinated teamwork. One of the important steps in development and growth is to act proactively in the face of changes and not be afraid of them. Talentis Agro has set this motto on its banner for almost 7 years, and since our results justify us, we will continue our joint work with the same faith and dedication,” he said in the statement. The Talentis Agro Group farms more than 64 thousand hectares, of which 52 thousand hectares are arable land. It produces 400 thousand tons of crops annually, and it also operates Hungary’s largest cattle farm with nearly 9,500 dairy cows and their offspring, but its pig and turkey herds are also significant. The company aims to become the largest producer of food and feed raw materials in Hungary, it was announced.
