Parts turnover increased
In the first months of 2025, agricultural machinery sales started at a slower pace. Due to the difficulties of recent years – drought, low crop prices, the Russian-Ukrainian war, and the development of the interest rate environment – the purchasing power and willingness of Hungarian farmers to purchase machinery is lower than before. Many prefer to wait for new tenders or the evaluation of already submitted tenders, which means further delays.
In addition to tenders, the effectiveness of farming is definitely necessary for the repeated growth of machinery sales. The previous trend will change after the tenders are published and evaluated. Although the postponement of the precision tender this year caused uncertainty, this year can still be a reason for optimism, as farmers are still open to developments. According to experts, the positive impact of the support on the machinery market is not expected to be realized in 2025, but rather in 2026.
The turnover of new machinery decreased by 5 percent this year until March compared to the first quarter of 2024, but the sales of parts increased by 19 percent
Individual farms and joint ventures purchased new agricultural machinery and equipment worth 37.6 billion forints in the period from January to March 2025. This turnover was 5 percent lower than the sales a year earlier and was similar to the sales of machinery in 2019. In addition to the sales of new machinery, which depend on the availability of support funds, the sales of parts have shown a continuous increase in recent years. Machines are becoming increasingly complex, parts have replacement periods, and the need for service is increasingly significant. Repairs also include digital settings and software updates. Farmers spent 23.7 billion forints on the purchase of parts necessary for the operation and repair of machines until March this year, which is a 19 percent increase compared to the base period.
