SPAR Magyarország Kft.’s turnover was HUF 453.7 billion in 2013, 7.6 percent above the level of 2012. Four new SPAR supermarkets opened in various Budapest shopping centres, and two City SPAR units and an INTERSPAR hypermarket also opened their gates in the capital city. By the end of the year the number of SPAR partner franchise units grew to 11. At the end of 2013 there were 401 SPAR stores in Hungary (31 INTERSPAR, 359 SPAR and 11 SPAR partner stores). SPAR’s own REGNUM meat processing plant got 1,600m² bigger after a HUF 1.5 billion investment and this move created 35 new jobs. The plant has the ISO 22000:2005 food safety system certification. SPAR works together with nearly 800 Hungarian suppliers and sells about 2,000 private label products. SPAR Hungary employs almost 12,400 people, which makes the retail chain the fifth biggest employer in Hungary. The company has been cooperating with the Hungarian Maltese Charity Service for 17 years. SPAR’s overall operation is environmentally conscious, from store design to waste management to logistics. From May 2013 SPAR’s multi-faceted CSR activity is coordinated under the ‘SPAR Helping Hands’ brand (see more at www.sparsegitokezek.hu).
