The number of cattle and pig slaughters increased in the first half of 2025
Domestic slaughterhouses produced 234.2 thousand tons of pork and 262.3 thousand tons of poultry meat in the first half of 2025 (carcass weight, cut in poultry, cleaned weight). 50.3 thousand cattle were slaughtered in the first half of 2025, the live weight of the slaughtered animals was 27.1 thousand, and the carcass weight was 14.6 thousand tons.

In terms of number of units, 26.1 percent more cattle, 3.6 percent more pigs and 4.1 percent fewer poultry were slaughtered in the first half of 2025 compared to January–June 2024. In the poultry group, duck slaughter decreased by 55.3 percent and goose slaughter by 14.7 percent during this period, while turkey slaughter increased by 4.5 percent compared to the first half of 2024. The number of sheep slaughtered in Hungarian slaughterhouses was 18.8 thousand in the first half of 2025, which represents a 15.5 percent decrease compared to the same period of the previous year. Nearly 2,200 ewes were slaughtered, which amounted to 111 tons of live weight during the period under review.
