Female entrepreneurs in the lead role – foodora gives a special place to female restaurant owners
Foodora is drawing attention to the importance of female entrepreneurs with a unique campaign on the occasion of International Women’s Day. The popular food delivery platform also features many female-owned restaurants. On the occasion of Women’s Day, Foodora has collected these restaurants and enthusiastic Foodora fans can access them on a separate platform throughout the week.
We currently do not have any statistics on the catering establishments in Hungary that would allow us to draw precise conclusions about the number or proportion of female restaurant owners. However, in the broader sense of the entrepreneurial layer, it is clear that on average 43% of businesses in Hungary have female owners, either as sole or co-owners. The participation of female owners or part-owners is most evident in small and medium-sized enterprises; as the size of the enterprise increases, the proportion of female owners also decreases; in companies employing more than 100 people, this proportion is only around 30%.
Domestic hospitality through a female lens
On the foodora platform, there are more than 1,400 restaurants where women also take part in the management of the restaurant as owners. Thanks to foodora’s unique initiative on the occasion of International Women’s Day, users can reach and try these restaurants with just one click in the foodora app or website. Whether it’s a juicy hamburger, a real Hungarian goulash, or the latest specialty coffee, everyone can find what they want on foodora.
Why is it worth trying these restaurants?
“What better way to celebrate Women’s Day than to discover places whose hearts and souls were inspired by women? Supporting these women-owned businesses not only enriches us with new gastronomic experiences, but also contributes greatly to their stable operation, thus diversifying the offer and ensuring variety. At foodora, we are proud that more than 50% of our employees are women, but we know that we cannot stop there. We are taking concrete steps to ensure equal opportunities at all levels of our organization. Our company has had the Rooney Rule in place since 2023, which ensures that all applicants, regardless of their individual background, receive equal opportunities during the recruitment process. Since 2024, we have been supporting our colleagues with inclusive programs, thus helping to balance private life and work, such as extended paternity leave. We are also committed to equal opportunities at the European level, and from 2025 a dedicated specialist will monitor that we provide appropriate and equal opportunities for our employees with every step we take.”
