Márton Nobilis: Hungary is making a call to reduce food waste
Hungary is calling on all countries to facilitate the exchange of knowledge, research and best practices related to the reduction of food loss and waste, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture (AM) responsible for food industry and trade policy announced on Tuesday in Budapest.
Márton Nobilis delivered the closing remarks at the international conference on food waste prevention organized jointly with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) within the framework of Hungary’s presidency of the European Union.
The state secretary said: Hungary asks EU member states to share their initiatives, technical expertise and best practices with other countries. This support is crucial for European and Central Asian countries to be able to develop an effective strategy adapted to their own circumstances to reduce food loss and waste, he said.
He believed that the conference also provided an opportunity for international organizations dealing with the topic to develop collaborations. According to him, such an area is the harmonization of measurement and reporting methods, closer cooperation between the public and private sectors and increasing consumer awareness, which contribute to the reduction of food waste.
