Nielsen: last year, the chocolate rabbit overtook eggs in value
The retail sales of Easter seasonal confectionery has been slowly declining. Their store sales in the 2010 holiday season, compared to the previous year, decresed by one percent to about 2.7 billion HUF – shows the Retail Index of Nielsen market research company
The Easter seasonal confectionery sales volume decreased by 8 percent to around 820 tonnes.
The chocolate eggs were the most popular for years. However, last year the chocolate rabbit overtook chocolate eggs in value. The market share of chocolate eggs declined to 38 percent, while the market share of chocolate rabbits increased to 40 percent in terms of value. Sweet packages follow them on the third place, with an 8 percent share.
