The cash register is in our pocket, the NAV ePénztárgép and NAV eNyugta applications can be downloaded for free – the Ministry of National Economy (NGM) announced to MTI on Wednesday.

According to the announcement, Hungary is at the forefront of economic deregulation, the government’s priority goal remains to reduce administrative burdens and, more importantly, to encourage fair market competition and the continuous deregulation of the economy.

Hundreds of thousands of businesses can voluntarily use e-cash registers from July 1, 2025. The new technology reduces the administrative burden on businesses, makes their operations more environmentally conscious and simplifies the receipt process. Not only companies, but also customers can benefit from using the e-cash register and e-receipt applications, as the enforcement of consumer rights (guarantee and warranty) becomes much faster and simpler.

In addition, the system will continue to provide the option of paper receipts for consumers who require them. Thanks to the significant economic whitening effect of the measures – amounting to 10-20 billion forints – the developments will benefit not only consumers and businesses, but also the Hungarian public finances.

They pointed out that

two brand-new, self-developed, free cloud-based applications of the National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV), NAV ePénztárgép and NAV eNyugta, are now available on the App Store and Google Play Store.

They announced that the government introduced the online cash register system in 2014. As a result of the explosive digital development that has occurred since then, there is an increasing demand for more modern, sustainable tools than online cash registers to support the work of businesses.

Businesses can use the online cash register until 2028 and gradually switch to the new e-cash register system, the use of which is voluntary. However, businesses that do not currently use cash registers should switch to the new system as soon as possible instead of using the receipt pad, as they will have to provide data about their receipts digitally from September 1, 2026.
